LORAIN – Five years ago, when Lorain voters halted Wal-Mart’s attempt to build a store along Cooper Foster Park Road, company officials said they wouldn’t give up trying to enter Lorain.

Today, a new Walmart is under construction at the Lighthouse Village Shopping Center, 4380 Leavitt Road on Lorain’s west side. (VIDEO)

  It’s the 50th anniversary of the last class to graduate from the old Lorain High School while it was still the city’s lone public high school, before the opening of Admiral King High School in 1960.

  LORAIN - The final graduating classes of Lorain’s Admiral King and Southview high schools walked across the stage to receive their diplomas on June 1 and 2. Some call it the end of an era. Others call it a new beginning. One thing is certain: both schools have generated many fond memories.
